Parting Words From The WORD…

Yesterday I hit the jackpot. I found a delicious cake recipe that requires only two ingredients. TWO! Now that is my kind of recipe.

That’s the way I like things…easy, but with a big pay-off. I want things that look good, smell good, and don’t cost much. I want all the benefits with little effort.

The truth is, I don’t want to make the investment.

It’s easy to be that way about writing. We want someone to tell us the short cut, the secret tricks of the trade, the right combination to get the job done…and done quickly. I mean, who has the time–or the money–to take classes and search markets and learn the silly rules of POV?

It’s easy to be that way about following Christ, too.

We want it to be simple, painless, and inexpensive. We want all the benefits with little effort.

We don’t want to make the investment.

But Jesus said:

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?…In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14: 28, 33

If we want to be writers, we must be willing to give what it takes.

And if we want to be followers of Christ, we must be willing to give it all.

I pray God’s blessing on the work of your hands and your hearts,
Vonda
