Last night Gary and I attended a fundraiser for a crisis pregnancy center. The night was filled with pictures of beautiful newborn babies, testimonies of spiritual healing after abortion, and a live ultrasound of a 12-weeks gestation baby…with hands and feet and a beating heart.
Babies are aborted legally at 12-weeks gestation everyday across America.
As I watched that precious unborn baby kick and roll and jump around in his mother’s womb, I was reminded of a verse in Proverbs 31. No, it’s not about the Proverbs 31 Woman, although I’m confident a Proverbs 31 Woman would follow the instruction. It’s the words of King Lemuel, words he learned from his mother:
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute. Proverbs 31:8
Speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Speak up for their rights.
Last night reminded me how long it had been since I’d really spoken up for those who can’t speak up for themselves–the unborn babies, kicking and rolling and jumping around in their mothers’ wombs. Babies who are trusting people to care for them.
It’s been a long time since I quietly prayed outside the local abortion clinic, not only for those precious unborn babies, but also for those blinded mothers and fathers who think abortion is their only option.
I think it’s time for me to stand up and speak up and pray…and give…again.
I pray God’s blessing on the work of your hands and your hearts,
Vonda
