Parting Words From The WORD…

I’ve read a lot of posts recently about the conditions of our mouths and our hearts. Looks like somebody must think they’re pretty important things to consider.

God must think they’re important, too. Why else would He direct the penning of “mouth/s” and “heart/s” over 600 times in both the Old and the New Testament?

We often look at the outside, the earthly body our thoughts and motivations are packaged in. But God’s Word tells us time and time again that how we look and sound on the outside has nothing to do with the real us, the one He knows intimately, whether we realize it or not.

It was a hard lesson for me to learn.

As a child, we went to church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. We took our Bibles, gave our nickels, and enjoyed the fun. But church and the Bible and God Himself had nothing to do with our everyday lives. We didn’t let Him interfere with what we wanted to say and do.

It wasn’t until I was about 30 years old that I slowly began to understand the real economy of God. I was a grown woman, a wife and a mother, before I grasped the fact that I couldn’t manipulate God through my actions or my words.

He could see deep into motivations, my intents, my desires. I could lie to myself and others–and might even get away with it–but He was not deceived.

He knew my heart.

And He knows yours.

If we’re honest, it’s an everyday battle…and must be an everyday prayer.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

Would you join me?

I pray God’s blessing on the work of your hands and your hearts,

Vonda
