Writer’s Headlines: Writing Opps, Contests, & Conferences and Memorial Day Book Give-Away by Edie Melson!

newspapersWhat a great day today at the Christian Writer’s Den! Let’s start with this new list of writing opportunities, selected just for YOU!

1.  New unique blogger opportunity from The Aetherlight: Chronicles of the Resistance STEAMPUNK video game. “Do you remember the first time you walked through the wardrobe into Narnia™? The story of Narnia brought a theology into our hands and hearts through immersing young readers in the grand narrative of the scriptures. They may never have been aware, but the story of the Bible told through allegory, impacted the way they viewed this world and their part in it.

The Aetherlight: Chronicles of the Resistance tells the same story refreshed and invigorated to recapture a digital generation with the grand story of God. Partnered with American Bible Society, Scarlet City Studios is a small New Zealand-based gaming studio with an epic goal: to take the greatest story ever told and re-tell it for a digital generation.”

They are currently looking for bloggers to play a brand new action adventure video game, The Aetherlight, and review the game for your blog. Though the game is designed for pre-teens, they feel that this simple game can be used as a great conversation starter for both your blog and your children. By closely following the story of the Bible, but in a steampunk inspired land, players are able to make the connections and discoveries for themselves, and see the Bible stories in a new light.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~WMSS, final, high res
And since Memorial Day is coming soon, let’s honor our military AND give away a free book, While My Soldier Serves: Prayers for Those with Loved Ones in the Military, by Edie Melson!
It’s easy to enter the drawing! Simply leave a comment, honoring an active military or veteran–living or deceased. We want to thank those who are protecting America and the world. Without you, dear servicemen and servicewomen, we America couldn’t be who she is.
So let’s see how many military men and women we can honor this week. Then I’ll use Random.org to draw one winner. Be sure to return next week to see if you’re the winner!
(Thanks, Edie!)
    Thanks for posting all these possibilities. There are a few I think I can submit something to.
    • Great, Ellen! I hope they lead to something good!
  • Thank you for the blog and the information. I, too, am looking forward to meeting you this weekend! There are several people in my family who are veterans including me and my husband! We were both in the service during the Viet Nam war!
    • Thanks to you and your husband for serving our country, Deanna. We honor both of you today! And please make sure we connect at BR! I’ll look forward to having some time with you!
  • Dee Dee Parker
    Thank you Vonda for this great list of opportunities. Thanks, Edie for the wonderful giveaway. i love to honor our veterans.
    • You’re very welcome. I’m always thrilled when I hear that someone had a publication because of this list. I’m like a mama hen! And yes, I too, love to honor veterans. In the bank yesterday, and older gentleman with a Vietnam Veteran hat on walked in as I was walking out. It felt so good to tell him that I appreciated his service. His smile was priceless. I wonder how many times I’ve walked right by men and women with that same hat or shirt or jacket and I never even noticed. I’m asking the Father to make me more aware of opportunities to honor them face-to-face.
  • I’m going to send something to TCW. Thanks for sharing the opportunity. Look forward to seeing you next week!
    • Ginger! I can’t wait to see you again, either! I saw your beautiful face on FB recently and it brought back some great memories. See you soon!
  • Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement in sharing these great opportunities, Vonda. Love the giveaway idea for Memorial Day. I look forward to seeing you at Blue Ridge this weekend!
    • You’re very welcome, Cathy! I love sharing the opportunities! And I can’t wait to have some time with you, either!
  • Jeanette Levellie
    Thanks, Vonda, and thank you, Edie, for offering this book! I love veterans. Both my daddy and step-dad were vets in WWII. My step-dad was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed, and lost a couple of buddies that day. I can’t imagine the horror of seeing a friend die in front of you! I honor my step-dad, Joe Kidgell, for his service to our nation and his service to Jesus Christ by distributing His Word through the Gideons for the last 30 years of his life.
    • Oh Jeanette, what a story about your step-dad. Thank you for honoring him. My sweet father-in-law (who just died this past December at 97yo) had just shipped out of Pearl Harbor a couple of days before the attack. We’ve always been thankful he made it out and didn’t have to see that first hand.
      And to add his desire to lead others to a saving knowledge of Christ makes it even more precious! Thank you for sharing.
      • Jeanette Levellie
        Thanks, Vonda!
        I’m glad your dad-in-law was spared the horror of Pearl Harbor.
        Happy Day,
        Jen
    Thanks Vonda for writing suggestions. It is an privilege to recognize John Hawthorne as a veteran to be honored. Since retiring, he has dedicated his life to serving God which he has done through hospital ministry and he and his wife host a weekly prayer meeting which I attend. This Memorial Day I pay tribute to all veterans who serve and those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
    • Thank you for your tribute to John Hawthorne and other military who fought and/or died for America’s freedoms. I pray the Father continues to bless his and his wife’s ministry. By doing that, he’s till fighting–this time for the souls of men, women, and children who need a Savior!
